Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is a bustling spot in El Monte where you can satisfy dim sum cravings without a long wait or a hefty bill. This is no fine dining establishment—rather, it serves up straightforward, home-style Chinese dishes in a modest, no-frills environment that centers on efficiency and comfort. Located on Peck Road, it’s a favorite for locals looking to grab a quick yet authentic dim sum meal during lunch hours, often finding the place packed around noon on weekdays.

The dining experience here revolves around selecting from a sizable menu of traditional dim sum items that are steamed to order and delivered hot to your table. This approach keeps the food fresh and warm, which makes a difference compared to pre-steamed or cart-style dim sum places. Expect classics such as shrimp har gow, chicken feet in black bean sauce, turnip cake, and wonton soup, alongside specials like crab with glutinous rice and freshly baked egg tarts. The portions are generous and the flavors lean toward the familiar Cantonese style, which will suit those who appreciate straightforward, comforting dishes.

Atmosphere-wise, Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe combines a practical layout with the lively, communal vibe typical of local Chinese eateries. It’s unpretentious, attracting a steady stream of families, couples, and solo diners mostly during the lunch rush. Service is polite and timely, with servers attentive enough to top off your tea regularly, reflecting the kind of small touches that local regulars appreciate.

If you’re in the neighborhood looking for a quick bite or a casual gathering spot where dim sum is both affordable and decent in quality, this place fits the bill. The best time to visit is around midday when the kitchen is in full swing, though be prepared to wait or tip into the takeout line if you arrive late. For anyone who knows the dim sum scene, Ocean Bo offers a satisfying, unadorned experience rather than novelty or haute cuisine.

Very affordable dim sum with quick service. Stumbled upon this place on a Monday around noon and the place was packed. You pick the dim sum items from a menu and they will steam it and bring it to your table. They also have a line for take out dim sum. I enjoyed the seafood dumpling, porridge and spare ribs. Most of the food was food was pretty standard, but the chicken feet were kinda sour and the turnip cake was too dry (they only pan fried it alone, didn't add any eggs so it was tough and dry).

24 Sep 2023 But for the price, it’s not bad. Nothing fancy, but it satisfies the DimSum craving if you want a quick and inexpensive fix. My favorite was the Gao Choi or Chive dumplings. Really delish! The Hargow was decent and not over steamed. The chicken feet tasty, although a bit too soft. The Bbq pineapple bun was good, with a lot of filling, not a lot of air like some places. The two worse dishes and I would never order again: the spinach and chive dumpling…which tasted weird, and the meatball, way overcooked and very soft and chewy, like too much tapioca flour mixed in. The best thing we ordered was the eggplant and green beans because it came out freshly cooked and still hot. My first time here and I enjoyed it. Not your typical Dim Sum restaurant. Instead waiting for the carts to come around, this place is order style. Just order what like and quantity. Very cool, laid back atmosphere. Clean restaurant. Good variety of Dim Sum to choose from, as well many dishes if you prefer. Food are very good, delicious. Prices are inexpensive, good place to come if you are on a budget. Service staff are friendly and attentive. Parking might be a problem during the peak hours.

From the outside, it looked quite modest—but the food completely blew me away! Everything was authentic, incredibly affordable, and absolutely delicious. I went with a girlfriend and we tried the pineapple bun—it was warm, hearty, and satisfying. The dumplings were packed with shrimp, and the portions were generous. Our server was attentive and kept refilling our teapot without us even asking. I’ll definitely be coming back!

The red bean puff is so delicious. This is a really good dim sum place I’d highly recommend it. It is now one of my favorite places and I can’t wait to go back. The prices are also very reasonable. Best custard bun I’ve ever had. I did miss choosing the dim sum from the carts though.

This is a hole in the wall type of Cantonese restaurant. The food is amazing!!! I went there for dinner and all the dishes were better than expected (see my uploaded photos). It tastes better than many Chinese restaurants in the area!! Must give it a try. Quick tips: They have dim sum during lunch time and the price is very reasonable.
